SDL Atlas produces a full range of special protective clothing equipment designed and built to specific requirements. Some examples are shown here. Contact our offices about these items or your special requirements.
ASTM F1383. This is used to measure the resistance to permeation of chemicals under the conditions of intermittent contact of protective clothing material to liquid or gaseous chemicals.
ASTM F739. As above but for continuous contact.
BS EN ISO 6529. Protective clothing equipment which is used to assess the ability of a material or material assembly to resist permeation by liquid or gaseous chemicals in either continuous or intermittent contact. The test material assembly acts as a partition between 2 chambers of a permeation test cell. The test medium (either liquid or gas) is forced through the test specimen by means of suction.
BS EN 374-3. This equipment is used to enable the measurement of the resistance of a glove material to permeation by a solid or liquid chemical, the breakthrough time of the chemical through the material is measured.
BS EN 368. A measured volume of test liquid is applied firstly with marginal force then greater force against the test fabric at an inclined angle by means of a hypodermic needle. The mass of the specimen before and after is used as an indicator of the properties of the test material.
X637A. Protective clothing equipment to determine the behaviour of materials on impact of small splashes of molten metal in accordance with BS EN 348. The test equipment comprises a source of producing molten metal drops, drip guide and specimen support frame and temperature sensor to a recording device.
X637B. Protective clothing equipment to evaluate the behaviour of material and material assemblies when exposed to a significant source of radiant heat in accordance with EN 366. The material assembly is subjected to a calibrated radiant heat source and the degree to which the heat is transferred through the sample is measured by a calorimeter. The equipment comprises a source of radiant heat, specimen support frame, calorimeter linked to a recording device.
X637C. Protective clothing equipment to determine the ability of a material assembly to transfer heat on exposure to flame in accordance with EN 367. The sample is exposed to a calibrated flame and the specimen shield is removed. The degree to which the heat is transmitted through the material assembly is measured by a calorimeter and this information is collected by a recording device.
X637D. Protective clothing equipment to assess the resistance of materials to withstand molten metal splash in accordance with EN 373. The equipment comprises of a crucible, furnace, pouring device, balance, temperature probe and a template.
X637F. Protective clothing equipment to test for limited flame spread of materials and material assemblies when tested in accordance with BS EN 532.
X637G. Protective clothing equipment to determine the contact heat transmission of materials in accordance with BS EN 702.
X1176. This test cell is used in several ASTM standards including ASTM F1670, F1671, F903, ISO 13994. The test cell is comprised of several layers including the test layer. By means of suction various test liquids are drawn through and the pressure required to penetrate the test layer is recorded.
